Local teen injured in crash headed to prestigious rehab center

Tatum Love, the 16-year-old First Flight High School student injured in a Jan. 26 crash in Kill Devil Hills, is headed to a respected rehab center in Atlanta.

Tatum has made huge improvements in recent days, her family wrote on her CaringBridge page on Sunday. Her trac was removed, she’s eating “real food” and she’s communicating with her family.

“In fact … she is doing so well from a health standpoint that on Wednesday of this week we will be moving to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta to begin her targeted and comprehensive rehab!. The Shepherd Center is among the best programs for TBI [traumatic brain injury] in the world. It is in fact the single largest facility of its kind on the planet.”

The crash on U.S. 158 at East Palmetto Street in Kill Devil Hills remains under investigation.
