VIDEO: Inauguration ceremonies for Gov. Cooper, Council of State

Governor Roy Cooper and the Council of State will be sworn in today at 10 a.m. And just like his first inauguration four years ago, this year’s ceremony will be much different.

A snow storm in 2017 led to the cancellation of public ceremonies at the state Capitol, while the inaugural ball took place one night earlier than originally planned to beat the weather.

This time, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the event being scaled down again. The Raleigh Junior League said the 2021 Inaugural Ball will be held at a later date.

The theme of the 2021 Inaugural Ceremony will be “North Carolina: Strong, Resilient, Ready”.

In addition to the Governor’s address and administration of oaths, the program will include virtual musical performances and offerings from a variety of North Carolinians including Nnenna Freelon, Ben Folds, Steep Canyon Rangers, Ana Lucía Divins and Carlos Crespo.

UNC-TV is providing live coverage, which is also available on the Outer Banks on WUND-TV channel 2.
