Kitty Hawk police call out Craigslist poster offering rides to the OBX

A Craigslist post offering rides to the Outer Banks, which is currently closed to visitors and non-resident property owners, got the attention of social media and the police this week.

The post’s headline reads: “Rides from Virginia to the Outer Banks,” and says the poster is offering rides to and from Virginia and the Outer Banks, with rates depending on time and day.
OBX Today replied to the original post asking for more information about getting onto the Outer Banks. The reply read: “As long as you have a valid ID with an obx address that is current, because they are checking passengers too.”

Kitty Hawk police posted on Facebook about the Craigslist ad this afternoon, saying “Well, we have truly moved beyond the absurd and ridiculous. We have researched it and yes this appears to be a valid post on Craigslist. Really folks?!?”

Dare County Health and Human Services reported the county’s second case of coronavirus today, pointing out that the patient does not have a Dare County address. The first positive case, reported on March 25, also did not list a Dare County address.
