Kill Devil Hills Ocean Rescue crews help everyone, human or animal.

On Sunday, a beachgoer brought an injured great shearwater turned in to the ocean rescue station.

Shearwaters are an Atlantic seabird that rarely comes to shore except during storms.

The great shearwater’s diet consists of small fish and squids that they will dive into the water to catch.

“We dropped this little guy off at the Roanoke Island Animal Clinic, located in Manteo, NC and we’re hoping for a speedy recovery,” rescuers said in a Facebook post. “He’ll be out flying over the ocean with a belly full of squid in no time.”
