The Kitty Hawk Kites and Life is Good store in Avon will be closed indefinitely after a Saturday afternoon fire, said company spokesman Ben Salesman.

“Though the store was open at the time of the fire, thankfully no one was injured,” he said in a text. “We want to express our sincerest appreciation to the fire departments of Avon, Frisco, Buxton, and Hatteras, for responding quickly to help extinguish the fire.”

Company officials are working with the Dare County fire marshal to determine the cause of the fire and the store is closed indefinitely.

The fire was reported about 1:30 p.m. and briefly closed N.C. 12.

All other Kitty Hawk Kites, Kitty Hawk Surf Co., and Life is Good stores in the Outer Banks are open, except for on Ocracoke.

“We thank you all for your support,” Saltzman said.
