Hurricane season doesn’t officially begin until June 1, but the National Hurricane Center today issued a special tropical weather outlook for the Atlantic basin.
A trough of low pressure was located over the northwestern Bahamas, producing disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity.
The hurricane center said little development is expected during the next couple of days as the system moves generally northwestward toward the Florida Peninsula. But some slow development is possible as the disturbance turns northeastward and moves over the western Atlantic.
Forecasters say there is a low chance of development, about 20 percent, during the next five days. But locally heavy rains are possible over portions of the Bahamas and the Florida Peninsula during the next couple of days.
The hurricane center will update the outlook for this weather system at 10 a.m. Thursday.
