The owner of a home severely damaged in a two-alarm fire late Sunday night in Kill Devil Hills is collecting clothes and toys for her tenants.
The family who lived at the home on Highview Street in the Avalon area lost everything, said owner Monique Mandvere. They have a 10-month-old boy and are staying at an area hotel for now.
Mandvere is collecting baby boy clothing sizes 18-24 months, as well as women’s small and extra small and men’s 34-36 large shirts and size 32 pants. The family will also need baby toys, furniture and other household items.
Donations of clothing and toys can be dropped off at Outer Banks Realty Group located next to Russo’s in Kitty Hawk before 5 p.m. Furniture can be dropped off at 301 E. Lake Drive.
Fire crews were called to the blaze at 11:57 p.m. and arrived to find the roof engulfed in flames. Firefighters from Colington, Kitty Hawk and Nags Head Fire Departments assisted in the operation and the fire was quickly knocked down. No one was injured.
Fire Marshal John L. Risoldi Sr. is investigating to determine the fire origin and cause.
