Fire damaged a historic home on Cottage Row in Nags Head this afternoon, but people and pets inside got out safely.

Fire crews were called to the house at 4047 South Virginia Dare Trail at 12:50 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke. The fire was quickly brought under control and the cause is under investigation.

The oceanfront cottage, owned by six residents in Raleigh, was built in 1930 and sits on what’s known as Historic Cottage Row, according to Dare County land records.
