The last segment of the West Side multi-use path project along U.S. 158 in Nags Head is now open.
The final phase of the three-phase pathway plan development, spanning along the west side of South Croatan Highway, from West Baymeadow Street to West Gull Street, completes the nearly year-long process for planning, permitting, and associated construction.
The additional segments constructed this summer added another 2.33 miles of multi-use pathway network along the bypass in Nags Head.
According to a town news release, the multi-use path extension was identified as a top priority in the Nags Head Pedestrian Plan.
It was made possible through a grant from the Outer Banks Tourism Board and the Town of Nags Head parks and paths capital reserve fund.
Some minor finishing work remains to include pavement striping, guardrail installation and landscaping which will be completed in the upcoming weeks.
