A man and woman from Hatteras Island were jailed on $1 million bond after their arrests on charges of breaking into an RV in Buxton.

On Oct. 1 at 3:27 p.m., deputies were called to N.C. 12 and Barley Lane in Buxton to investigate a break-in into a drivable RV located on the property, Sheriff Doug Doughtie said in a news release.

Madison Paige Hershberger, 24, of Buxton was arrested at the time and charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering and released, Doughtie said.

On Monday, after reviewing the case, the misdemeanor charges were dropped and warrants were taken out for Hershberger and Wyatt Hayes Kennedy, 30, also of Buxton, for felony breaking and/or entering a motor vehicle, Doughtie said.

Kennedy and Hershberger were located and arrested Monday at approximately 9:44 p.m. in the Buxton area and taken to the Dare County Detention Center, where they were held under a $1 million bond, the sheriff said.
