Dare County Health and Human Services conducted a COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Saturday at the Fessenden Center in Buxton, distributing a total of 500 shots.

The Ocracoke Health Center has opened registration for those covered the 65 and up and all health care worker categories that are now eligible under state guidelines.

Appointments for these inoculations were scheduled before the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services announced changes to their Vaccine Prioritization Phases.

Under the new plan, all healthcare workers and individuals 65 years of age and older may now receive the vaccine. Dare County is now accepting Vaccine Appointment Requests for these individuals at upcoming clinics.

If you are a healthcare worker or at least 65 years of age, you may submit a request for a Vaccination Appointment at www.darenc.com/Register4Vaccine or by calling the COVID-19 call center at 252-475-5008.

Dare County DHHS receives a limited supply of vaccine on a weekly basis from the state, and will schedule appointments for individuals from the appropriate Phase as the vaccine supply allows.

Based on the anticipated number of individuals in this phase, we anticipate it could take 6-8 weeks before all individuals in these Prioritization Phases who wish to be vaccinated receive one.

Dr. Sheila Davies, Dare County Health and Human Services Director, joined us Friday on OBX Today on the all new News Talk 92.3 WZPR with an update on the vaccine siutation.

For more information or details on the various Phases and who falls under which Phase is visit www.darenc.com/covidvaccine.
