Dare County schools on Tuesday sent a survey to parents and guardians asking for opinions on four options for the new school year beginning Aug. 17 — from fully remote learning to alternating days or weeks in classrooms.

All in-classroom options would require daily temperature checks and masks for older students.

Parents and guardians can find the survey at this link. It must be completed by midnight Friday.

The options, based on state guidance so far, includes:

Virtual learning is an option under all reopening plans. Parents will have the option to opt-in to virtual learning for the first semester at a minimum. The DCS Virtual Learning Option is a full day of virtual learning with mandatory attendance and grading for K-12 students. Middle and high school students taking part in the virtual learning option are eligible to participate in extra-curricular activities/athletics if applicable. For families interested in the DCS Virtual Learning Option registration information will be sent at a later date.

The following options are under the state’s Plan B and meet the requirements for 50% building capacity.

Option A – Elementary and middle school students use elementary, middle, and high school campuses to attend K-8 face-to-face Learning 5 days a week. Social distancing and daily temperature checks/health screenings are required. Middle school students are required to wear face coverings in the buildings.
Under Option A, High school students would participate in a Full Remote Learning Program with options to schedule face-to-face instructional support as needed.

Option B – Elementary, middle, and high school students attend school face-to-face on alternating DAYS. Students are grouped into cohorts attending specific days on campus and Remote Learning will be provided on days students are off-campus.

Social distancing and daily temperature checks/health screenings are required. Middle and high school students are required to wear face coverings in the buildings.

Option C – Elementary, middle, and high school students attend school face-to-face on alternating WEEKS. Students are grouped into cohorts attending specific weeks on campus and Remote Learning will be provided on days students are off-campus.
