Dare County Health and Human Services reported two new coronavirus cases Sunday, for a total of three new positive patients this weekend.
One of the new cases is a woman between the ages of 18 and 24 who does not live in the county. She is isolating in her home county. The second is a man over the age of 65 who is a Dare County resident. He, too, is isolating at home, health officials said.
On Saturday, Dare County received word of another patient, a man between the ages of 25 and 49 who lives in the county. He is also isolating at home.
Since COVID-19 testing began in March, there have been 35 positive cases in Dare County — 24 of those are county residents and 11 are non-residents.
Since the Outer Banks reopened to visitors on May 16, there have been more than 800,000 visitors to Dare County and 13 new positive COVID-19 cases, according to county officials.
Some of the trends health official have seen in recent cases include:
- Some acquired the virus by direct contact with an asymptomatic positive case.
- The spread of the virus occurred quickly among family members and members within the same household.
- There is an increase in the number of direct contacts associated with the recent positive cases.
COVID-19 cases across North Carolina continued to climb this weekend, with state health officials reporting 1,443 new cases Sunday, following 1,427 new cases Saturday and 1,768 on Friday.
As of Sunday afternoon, 798 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized and 1,109 have died. More than 627,130 tests have been performed.
