Dare County reports three new COVID-19 deaths Wednesday

The Dare Department of Health and Human Services COVID-19 dashboard on Wednesday noted three new deaths of county residents.

The news comes as North Carolina saw 169 deaths over the last 24 hours, bringing the total for the state to 9,578. The latest statewide deaths hit a daily record, with the previous high on Dec. 30 of 155 deaths. Dare officials have not yet reported any additional information on the three new deaths.

State health officials also reported a high number of new cases on Wednesday, a total of 12,079, but nearly 8,000 of those were caused by a delay in reporting tests performed at FastMed Urgent Care clinics during December 2020 and January 2021.

Dare County has now seen 2,605 COVID-19 cases since testing began in March, with 153 active cases and six people hospitalized.
