Dare County reports 13th COVID-19 death

Dare County Health and Human Services on Friday reported a 13th COVID-19 death on its daily pandemic dashboard, the sixth over the past month.

Health officials have not yet released details on the latest death. The county has seen 2,748 COVID-19 cases since testing began in March, with 94 cases currently active among county residents. Among those, eight people are hospitalized. Over the past few weeks, Dare County’s new cases have dropped dramatically, with only four new positive cases reported Friday.

Meanwhile, the delay of COVID-19 vaccine shipments this week due to severe weather will have an impact on some upcoming local clinics. Those delays led to limited first-dose shipments to Albemarle Regional Health Services, but the district already had second dose stock on hand so those events are going on as planned.

Dare County Health Director Sheila Davies said the delays will not have an impact on any upcoming clinics through Monday, but she’s not sure if it will affect clinics scheduled for later next week.

Dare County’s hopes of a mass first vaccination clinic for 3,000 people have been dashed for now, as the state informed Dare County Thursday evening they have only authorized an additional 100 doses on top of the regular allotment for next week.
