The driver who struck and killed a bicyclist in Moyock and then fled north on Caratoke Highway has voluntarily came forward, the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The driver is a Virginia resident and the car has been located and is being held. The investigation is ongoing. The bicyclist has been identified as Baltazar Brito-Brito. He was crossing the highway when he was hit.

Brito-Brito was one of two people killed early Sunday morning on Caratoke Highway. First, the bicyclist was truck by an older model Toyota, then a person who stopped to help Brito-Brito was then hit and killed by another car. The driver of that car stayed at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

Authorities have not released the name of the second victim or other details about the incidents.
