Currituck County cancels youth soccer, volleyball; suspends baseball and softball

Currituck County is preparing for local actions that may be necessary due the spread of the coronavirus, COVID-19.

A meeting was held this morning for department heads to receive the latest information from representatives of Albemarle Regional Health Services, along with recommendations for best practices in keeping employees safe.

At this time, all county offices remain open on a regular schedule. Staff will continue to discuss contingency plans in case changes are necessary.

These may include limits on employee travel to conferences, telecommuting for county employees who are able to work from home, cancelling or postponing large events, and possible closures of county facilities.

The Currituck Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Medical Services remain fully-staffed for public safety response and are reviewing emergency operational plans to protect employees from exposure to the coronavirus.

The following announcements have been made:

  • Currituck Parks and Recreation has cancelled the spring seasons for youth soccer and volleyball.
  • Currituck Parks and Recreation has suspended the spring seasons for youth baseball and softball. A reassessment and decision will be made on or about April 6.
  • Currituck Library has cancelled the ecoEXPLORE: Our Green World program and The Knapp Legacy presentation.
