Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet on Friday afternoon assisted a 36-foot vessel across the bar after it lost power of one of its two engines.
The Coast Guard’s 47 Motor Life Boat and crew, launched to aid to the vessel around 3 p.m. amid two-to-four foot chop in the channel, Station Oregon Inlet said in a Facebook post.
“One of the factors taken into consideration when determining the level of distress is the potential for a situation to worsen. This is exactly what happened when the vessel reported to our 47 that they lost their ‘good’ engine,” the post said. “Now, the vessel is limping in on the ‘bad’ engine, which is expected to over heat.”
Instead, the crew met the 47 outside the bar to be escorted in.
“Once inside the inlet, the vessel secured their engines and were put into tow by the 47, who took them safely to their home port,” the post said.
