UPDATED: Damaged fiber line causing Outer Banks AT&T wireless outage

And … it’s out again.

Service was restored Friday night after many AT&T wireless customers on the Outer Banks and northeastern North Carolina went without starting Thanksgiving afternoon.

But the repair was apparently short-lived. On Saturday morning, customers on the Outer Banks and the mainland were reporting no service yet again.

“We continue to work closely with the local service provider in the Outer Banks area as they make repairs to restore wireless service,” AT&T spokeswoman Ann Elsas said Saturday afternoon. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Elsas said Friday the outage was caused by a damaged fiber optic cable that is maintained by another company.

Details on when service may be restored have not been made available.
