Tomlinson and Associates, LLC and Brent Tomlinson are pleased to announce the Sale of Tar Heel Trading Company located in The Scarborough Lane Shoppes, 1171 Duck Road, Suite B-7, in Duck, N.C.. Tar Heel Trading Company is a popular and unique specialty retail shop offering jewelry, pottery, home décor and gifts, all handcrafted by American artists.

Tar Heel Trading Company was purchased on February 28, 2023 by Liz and Jamie McBain. “We are privileged to be carrying on Tar Heel Trading Company’s legacy of showcasing unique, one-of-a-kind creations by American artists and craftsmen,” said Liz McBain who will be managing the store’s operations going forward.

Liz and Jamie both have ties to North Carolina with Liz having grown up in Raleigh and spending summers with her family in the Outer Banks.  Jamie, who is a native of Minnesota, spent the first four years of his professional hockey career in North Carolina playing as a defenseman with the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League.

Tar Heel Trading Company was previously owned by Judy Joyce and has been at the same location in Scarborough Lane Shoppes since the mall was built in 1995. The Company was originally established in 1979 and operated several locations on the Outer Banks for the past 43 years. The shop established itself as a destination for locals and visitors looking for fine quality American made crafts and gifts.

When Judy decided to retire to spend more time with her family, she contacted Brent Tomlinson for help in finding the right people to pass the store on to.   Judy said: “Brent found the perfect new owners for Tar Heel Trading Company and made the transition easy with his guidance.  Liz and Jamie are excited to carry on the business model we have perfected over the years, and I feel confident the shop will continue to be a favorite for locals and visitors for many years to come.”

Rose Harrison Gilreath & Powers, P.C. advised and assisted the Buyers and Sellers with the sale and acquisition.
