Nags Head’s Police Department would like to remind you to be aware of holiday scams.
Four signs it’s a scam:
- Scammers PRETEND to be from an organization you know.
- Scammers say there’s a PROBLEM or a PRIZE.
- Scammers PRESSURE you to act immediately.
- Scammers tell you to PAY in a specific way.
Tips to help avoid a scam:
- Block unwanted calls and text messages.
- Don’t give your personal or financial information in response to a request you didn’t expect.
- Never pay someone who insists you pay with a gift card or using a money transfer service.
- Don’t click on links in emails or texts you didn’t expect.
