Three shot to death in Elizabeth City include 3-year-old and a woman from Manteo

Police have identified three victims who died from gunshot wounds in Elizabeth City Thursday evening, including a woman and her 3-year-old daughter from Roanoke Island.

According to an Elizabeth City Police Department press release, officers were called to the 500 block of Perry and Jordan streets at 5:02 p.m. to a report of shots being fired.

Witnesses told The Daily Advance they heard multiple gunshots that sounded like they came from different weapons and the victims were inside a vehicle. Upon arrival, police encountered several individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

De’Shay Berry, 39, and Allura Pledger, 3, both from Manteo, and Jaquan White, 18, of Elizabeth City, succumbed to their injuries.

Police did not say if Berry and Pledger are related, but neighbors and friends have said they were mother and daughter. Both had Scarborough Street addresses listed in the press release.

Three people, all from Elizabeth City, were also wounded in the shooting according to an update issued Friday evening.

“There were multiple shell casing recovered from the scene and this appears to be an isolated incident,” said interim Chief of Police Larry D. James, Sr.

This is still an active investigation and the Elizabeth City Police Department urges anyone with any information to contact the Elizabeth City Police Department at (252) 335-4321 or the Crime Line at (252) 335-5555. All information will remain anonymous and strictly confidential.
