Winners of 23rd Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show announced

After being rescheduled from May to July due to Covid-19, the 23rd Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show still hosted over 60 entries from local and regional artists.

From those entries, an anonymous judge carefully selected the following award recipients:

Best In Show: Julien McCarthy “Irrevocable Union” (wood, turquoise)

Excellence Awards: Kinga Rojek “The Love Source” (acrylic), Rick Daley “Surf Monster” (latex house paint on canvas drop cloth), Marilyn Heiser “Issah Asana” (oil), and Lori Goll “Peacock Mug” (pastel)

Honorable Mentions: Bob McCormick “Two Fish” (sprayed acrylic), Beth Burns “Take Cover” (textiles), and Kelly Lonergan “Self-Portrait with Book and Cat” (oil on canvas)

People’s Choice Award: Sue Freeman “Moments of Reflection” (wood)

“I am very proud to have been encouraged by Chris, Lynne and Lou to enter the Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show,” said Best In Show award recipient Julien McCarthy. “I am even prouder to have won Best in Show amidst such a stellar display of artistic talent. I am grateful to all who work to support the Arts Council and its activities.” 

The Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show will close at 5pm today, July 31.

The show is held in memory of Mollie A. Fearing, one of the founders of Dare County Arts Council, and is known for showcasing vibrant, eclectic artwork.
