VIDEO: Hang Gliding is a 46-year-old Outer Banks tradition

dune hang gliding on the Outer Banks

A long-standing tradition on the Outer Banks is taking a Hang Gliding lesson with Kitty Hawk Kites at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Since 1974, Kitty Hawk Kites has made it their mission to teach the world to fly. Now, they’ve had over 450,000 students and expanded their operation to include tandem lessons at altitude at the Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg.

This uplifting experience cannot be explained, so we urge you to take part in it yourself. The trained Kitty Hawk Kites hang gliding instructors will have you flying on your own in your first lesson. Each lesson includes five flights over the dunes. Most people fly 5 to 15 feet above the ground while controlling the glider. Your instructor runs alongside the glider to offer instruction and guidance. The most common is stated on the back of their shirts: relax and look ahead.

Kitty Hawk Kites partners with another local business, Ignite Life, to offer you a video recording of your lesson. You can relieve your adventure over and over, and make your friends and family jealous! Lessons are available every day, weather permitting. Book online to take flight today!
