Celebrate the 2019 season opening day at the Currituck Beach Lighthouse with a free climb Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Corolla Wild Horse Fund will also have a gentled mustang on hand for folks to meet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Still a working aid to navigation, the Currituck Beach Lighthouse was built in 1875 to fill the remaining “dark space” on our coast.

Open to the public since 1990, the tower will be open every day in season (weather permitting) 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Dec. 1.

The lighthouse has 220 stops to the top, with a panoramic view of the northern Outer Banks, and the Victorian stick-style buildings.

Children of all ages are welcome. Children 7 and under must be under constant adult supervision.
