The Blue Crab Tavern, a beloved institution on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, is proud to celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2023.

Located in a humble sound side concrete flat top built in 1950, it was once a fish house that has remained largely unchanged. The picturesque scene provides the landscape for a throwback to days gone by and a spot to view some of the most beautiful sunsets on the Outer Banks.

The Blue Crab Tavern has been a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike, offering a casual and friendly atmosphere, scenic waterfront views, and cheap drinks. The tavern has become a staple of the Outer Banks community.

Argie Shultz, the proprietor, has been working in bars on the Outer Banks since 1984 and brings a wealth of experience and notoriety to the Blue Crab Tavern. She has been the driving force behind the tavern’s success, and her dedication to creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere has kept customers coming back year after year. In fact, she is the only employee of the establishment and will be found working behind the bar 363 days a year.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating 30 years of serving our community,” said Shultz. “We want to thank our loyal customers for their support over the years, and we look forward to continuing to provide a warm and inviting watering hole for many years to come.”

To mark this milestone the Blue Crab Tavern will be hosting a series of special events and promotions throughout the year. There is a big anniversary party on April 20th, the annual Independence Day weekend BBQ celebration on July 1st and various charity events planned. The tavern will also offer special anniversary merchandise to commemorate this milestone.

Come and join us in celebrating one of the hidden gems of the Outer Banks – A rare place where high and low rub elbows. We look forward to welcoming you to our humble abode and invite you to make memories with us.
