“California and New England often play starring roles in scenic coastal road trips, but the Southeastern Coast shouldn’t be relegated to a supporting role,” says travel outlet The Discoverer, who has once again highlighted the Outer Banks in a nationwide listicle recommending it as an “Essential Stop Along the Southeastern Coast, adding “Road tripping through the coastal towns and cities that litter the seaboard from Maryland to Florida offers an entirely different experience.

According to The Discoverer, “you could spend an entire week exploring the Outer Banks,” making it the ideal vacation destination.

In addition to well-known tourist attractions like the Wright Brothers National Memorial and Jennette’s Pier, dubbed “one of the best fishing piers on the East Coast,” The Discoverer notes the endless possibilities that can be had on Roanoke Island, as well as the journey further south via ferry.

Above all, the Outer Banks’ spot on the listicle emphasizes the Outer Banks National Scenic Byway, which passes through 21 coastal villages along 138 driving miles and 25 ferry-riding miles. The perfect stretch of pavement for the avid road-tripper.
