Tail Waggin’ Tuesday: November 7, 2023 (Senior Edition)

Are you in search of the perfect fur-ever friend? A new addition to the family, perhaps? OBX Today in partnership with the Outer Banks SPCA is proud to present “Tail Waggin’ Tuesdays.”

Each Tuesday, browse our provided selection of videos and images and follow along as we showcase a variety of pets that are currently awaiting adoption at our local animal shelter. With November being Adopt-a-Senior Month, this week the Outer Banks SPCA has chosen to highlight a selection of its senior residents.

This week’s featured pets are Pirate, Queenie, Kyrie, Minnie, and Bagheera. Verbiage is provided by shelter manager Leann Saunders:

Pirate
Pirate is about 7 years old and was brought into our care from an animal cruelty situation after being tied underneath the Pirates Cove Bridge. We never found who the previous owner was but have had him here since August the 30th. Pirate previously lived with other dogs and we would be open to a meet and greet with another dog who has a similar energy level. Pirate walks great on the leash, is good with children, and is house trained.
Queenie
Queenie is about 10 years old and was brought into our care with the help of Animal Control. For a big majority of her life she lived inside with a family. In the past year due to an unfortunate living situation Queenie found herself living in the backyard tied to a tree. Queenie didn’t deserve that kind of lifestyle and her owner decided it would be in the best interest of Queenie to surrender her into our care to help her find the home that she deserves. Queenie loves her dog bed, enjoys laying out in the sun, and playing fetch!
Kyrie
Kyrie is about 10 years old. He was surrendered into our care after his family recently had a baby and could no longer care for him. He previously lived with another female dog and absolutely loves riding in the car. Kyrie’s favorite thing is belly rubs and playing with his big ball outside. Kyrie is extremely potty trained and would be perfectly content in an easy going home where he can still enjoy car rides and walks but doesn’t require a lot of effort throughout the day. He would be content in the home on his dog bed for 8 hours a day while his family was away at school and work.
Minnie
Minnie is about 6 years old. She was brought into our care after being in another animal shelter for a year as a stray that was never reclaimed. Minnie is a normal hound that loves to put her nose on the ground and sniff away. She seems to do really well in her kennel, loves her dog toys, and gets along with other animals. Minnie’s favorite snack is peanut butter! Minnie is in need of a foster to be able to have dental work and undergo heartworm treatment.
Bagheera
Bagheera is about 13 years old. She is completely declawed and would do best in the home with no other animals and no small children. Bagheera would benefit from a foster to be able to get her out of this stressful environment. She is very affectionate once she gets to know you and would be the perfect companion for an elderly person.

To adopt Pirate, Queenie, Kyrie, Minnie, Bagheera or any of the other shelter animals, visit the Outer Banks SPCA Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., or give them a call at 252-475-5620.
