A line of heavy rain with strong winds ahead of a cold front crossed the Outer Banks early Friday morning, and knocked out power in part of Wanchese and on the Nags Head causeway.
The storms also dropped quite a bit of rain on Hatteras Island, and there is standing water reported in multiple locations along N.C. 12 and side roads.
Around 360 customer of Dominion Energy were affected by the outages that started at approximately 3 a.m.
While what happened on the causeway was not posted on the Dominion website, and power there was restored around 8:30 a.m., the power company said tree damage was to blame for the extended outage in Wanchese.
Power was restored to 176 customers in the Old Wharf Road and Schoolhouse area around 10 a.m.
While there was quite a bit of rain water dumped on Hatteras Island this morning, it is likely mixed with residual ocean and sound water from the nor’easter earlier this week and drivers should keep that in mind if you have to drive through it.
Once the showers and storms have moved offshore, the initial cold front will cross the area this evening with clearing skies. A reinforcing shot of cooler air is forecast to move in over the weekend, leaving behind dry conditions with seasonal temperatures.
