The Southern Shores Town Council is now taking public input, and will hold a public hearing later this month, on whether or not to move forward with a beach nourishment project in 2022.
The potential project may be funded through tax assessments which may include Municipal Service Districts and/or a town-wide assessment that could potentially range from an additional $100 to around $3,000 to tax bills, depending on the value and location of property, and its proximity to the ocean.
Beach nourishment information, including potential projects, can be found at www.southernshores-nc.gov/beach-nourishment/. Please submit your comments no later than June 12, 2020 to info@southernshores-nc.gov or mail them to Town of Southern Shores, 5375 N. Virginia Dare Trl., Southern Shores, NC 27949.
A public hearing on the project is scheduled for June 16, 2020 at 9:00 a.m in the Pitts Center located at 5377 N. Virginia Dare Trail and also available on Zoon.
The mass gathering restriction under the governor’s executive order does not apply to or limit the number of members of the public who may attend an in-person government board meeting and encompasses government officials, staff, and members of the public. A local government governing board can put public health measures in place for in-person board meetings.
In an effort to comply with social distancing guidelines for mitigating the potential spread of COVID-19, citizens who attend the June 16, 2020 meeting should keep a minimum distance of six feet from others prior to, during, and following the meeting. Seating in the Pitts Center has been arranged in a manner that complies with this guideline and seating will be limited.
The meeting recording will be posted on the town website as soon as possible following the meeting.
