Sophia “Sophie” Daniel

Sophia “Sophie” Daniel, 92 of Buxton, NC passed away peacefully in her home on January 30, 2022. Sophie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

She was born to the late Nick Marko Kustudich and the late Irene Marie Strauch Kustudich, August 15, 1929, in Valier, Illinois. She married the late Monroe Daniel in 1953, and they lived together in Carpentersville, IL for twenty-two years before they retired and relocated to Buxton, North Carolina and built their dream home on the Outer Banks. Sophie is survived by three children: Kurt and Denise Daniel, of Camdenton, MO; Paul Daniel, of Rolla, MO, and Denise H. Wright, of Indianapolis, IN. She is also survived by two grandsons, Taylor Daniel, of Camdenton, MO and Tanner and Chloe Wright, of Noblesville, IN and a sister-in-law, Lois Mauer, of Apopka, FL and a host of nieces and nephews.

Sophie was predeceased by her loving husband, Monroe in 2006.

Sophie had a fun-loving, very optimistic and competitive nature; whether it was ping-pong, dominoes, or assembling a puzzle Sophie always brought her best effort. She appreciated a shell bank at low tide, a deep tan in summer, picking blue crabs for hours, listening to Jimmy Buffett, laughing out loud, and eating fruitcake. Sophie was very strict about following posted speed limits, living life with “everything in moderation”, and baking with real butter.

A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Seas Catholic Church in Buxton, NC at the end of February.

In lieu of flowers the family asks people to consider a memorial donation to either: Cape Hatteras United Methodist Men via CHUMM, PO Box 1591, Buxton, NC 27920, or their website at hatterasmethodistmen.org or Hatteras Island Wildlife Foundation via HIWR, PO Box 216, Frisco, NC 27936 or their Facebook page
