Severe thunderstorms, dangerous heat possible starting Wednesday

[NOAA]

According to a briefing released Tuesday morning by the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City, the NOAA is currently monitoring the threat of scattered to numerous thunderstorms on the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, July 6.

This will begin an active several day period of severe storm possibilities, as a very unstable air mass sits over the region with a stalled front in the vicinity. The storms may also affect the region through the overnight periods as well.

Damaging winds, large hail, torrential downpours with localized flooding, and frequent lightning are all possible with the thunderstorms.

In addition to the severe storm threat, the combination of hot temperatures and very humid conditions will set the stage for potential heat indices reaching 105 degrees or higher on Wednesday, and possibly through the end of the work week.
