Sentara to provide drive-thru coronavirus screenings in Chesapeake, Va. Beach

Sentara Healthcare will start providing drive-thru screening and testing at three locations beginning Monday, March 16 at 1 p.m. for those who are concerned they may have coronavirus (COVID-19).

The hospital system urges the community to review the following information before deciding to access the drive-thru screening opportunity. “With limited testing supplies and availability here and across the country, we want to ensure testing capabilities are reserved for those at the highest risk,” Sentara said in a statement.

Dates and Times:

Monday, March 16
1-6 p.m.

Tuesday, March 17 and beyond (open 7 days a week)
10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Know Before You Go

Prevention

The best way to protect yourself from a respiratory illness, including COVID-19, is to wash your hands and keep your hands away from your face.

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
Avoid touchingyour eyes, nose, and mouth and cover your sneeze or cough in your elbow
Social distancing: Stay away from large crowds and put at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and others.
Before You Leave Your House

Ask yourself these questions:

Do you have 2 of the 3 symptoms:
Fever (100.4 degrees or higher)
Cough
Shortness of breath
AND

In the last month, have you been in contact with someone who was confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19?

OR

Do you have 2 of the 3 symptoms:
Fever (100.4 degrees or higher)
Cough
Shortness of breath
AND

In the last month, have you traveled internationally or to an area with a known COVID-19 outbreak? (Check the latest high-risk travel areas here)

IF NO:

Please, stay home. Continue to follow the CDC recommended prevention methods and monitor for a change in symptoms.

IF YES:

If you are below age 60 and have no other health issues, you should stay home and self-quarantine for 14 days. If you have to be out in the community or if your symptoms worsen, come to of our drive-thru locations and we will screen you.

If you are over age 60, come to one of our drive-thru screening locations.

What Else Can You Do?

Take this opportunity to stay home whenever possible. Enjoy time with your loved ones while practicing the CDC’s prevention methods.

What Should I Expect?

What happens when I arrive?

You will drive to one of these locations and STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE.
Follow the “COVID-19 Screening Location” signs and drive up to the screening tent.
Step 1: A nurse will ask you with a series of questions.
Then, based on your answers, you will be sent home or continue to Step 2
Step 2: You will be screened by a provider.
Then, based on your screening, you will be sent home or continue to Step 3
Step 3: You will be tested using a nasal swab sample
If you receive a nasal swab, you will be considered presumptive positive until we receive final results

How will I receive my results of the test?

If tested, you will provide your personal information and will receive a phone call once your test results are in.
If you are already a Sentara patient, your results will also be added to your Sentara MyChart.
Please be patient. At this time, it can take up to 5 days to receive test results.
What happens after I am tested?

Once you are tested, you will be asked to self-quarantine until we receive your results
If your symptoms require additional medical care, you may be admitted to the hospital.
