Two rehabilitated sea turtles return to the sea on Tuesday

The N.C. Aquarium on Roanoke Island and Network for Endangered Sea Turtles (N.E.S.T.) will release two rehabilitated sea turtles at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, July 25. Thanks to a partnership with Cape Hatteras National Seashore, the event will be held at the Coquina Beach access located in Nags Head. The public is welcome to come out and see these turtles reunited with the sea!

Details surrounding the two turtles being released are as follows:

    • 335 lb adult male loggerhead, Behemoth
      • Stranded August 2022
      • Severe anemia
      • It has been fitted with a satellite tag that can be tracked alongside adult female Miss Piggy at https://bit.ly/MissPiggy2023 (link on our website)
    • Small juvenile green sea turtle, Frozone
      • Stranded December 2022
      • Frostbite
