Search for ‘armed and dangerous’ shooting suspect continues in Elizabeth City

The College of the Albemarle Elizabeth City campus was evacuated and Sentara Albemarle Medical Center on lockdown much of the day Wednesday as police searched for a suspect in a Sept. 2 shooting.

Police received a tip that Caprie Anthony Paige, 22, was in the area of Travelers Inn at 1211 North Road St., on Wednesday afternoon.

Paige is wanted on charges of discharging a firearm in city limits, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in connection with a Sept. 2 shooting on Edge Street. In that case, Paige is accused of shooting into an occupied car, police said. No one was injured.

Paige is considered to be armed and dangerous, police said. The COA campus was evacuated during the search late Wednesday afternoon and all evening classes were canceled. The lockdown at Sentara continued Wednesday evening.
