Samuel Richard Wentz, Jr., 78, of Weeksville, NC died Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Brookdale Assisted Living. He was born October 6, 1943, in Washington, D.C. to the late Samuel Richard Wentz, Sr., and Anne Tolson Wentz and was the widower of Sharon Lynn Hyde Wentz. He was an Avionics Technician/Navigator with the US Coast Guard having retired after twenty years of active service and then worked for thirty-six years with the Federal Government Homeland Security and attended New Community Church.
He is survived by two sons, Scott Samuel Wentz (Tammy) of Camden, NC, and Steven Spencer Wentz, of Weeksville, NC; four grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan and fiancée Blair, Spencer (Jessica), and Chase; and one great-grandson, Noah.
A funeral service will be held Monday, May 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with New Community Church Pastor Rob Tucker officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery with military honors. The family will greet friends in the funeral home lobby immediately following the service and at other times at 577 NC Hwy 343 South, Camden, NC.
