Robert Melvin Lewis Jr., 72, of Currituck, NC, passed away peacefully at home September 27, 2024 after a prolonged illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 18, 1951, in Norfolk, VA, to Robert Melvin Lewis Sr. and Atha Kimble Baker Lewis, Melvin was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He grew up in Currituck County and planted roots that would shape his life and legacy.
Melvin had an unwavering passion for the great outdoors and his heart was always drawn to the water and woods. He made a life doing what he loved most; hunting, crabbing, and fishing. These were activities that were not just hobbies, but his livelihood, his joy, and his way of connecting with nature and the community around him. His love for his family, especially his children and grandchildren was evident in everything he did. He worked tirelessly to provide for them and his greatest accomplishments were always rooted in his dedication to those he loved.
Melvin is survived by his three cherished daughters, Heidi Lewis (Billy), Myra Lewis, Macy Lewis; and his five adored grandchildren, Brad, Emmalyn, Louella, Harlowe and Violette. He is also survived by his sister, Wanda Lewis; and his three brothers, Larry Lewis (Donna) Gary Lewis (Caryn) and Daniel Lewis (Kim) who shared in his adventures and were his lifelong companions. Melvin’s legacy extends beyond his immediate family, as he leaves behind countless friends who loved and admired him deeply.
As there are so many special friends, the family would like you to know if you are reading this you were an important part of Melvin’s life and shared a unique bond of friendship, love, and camaraderie that enriched Melvin’s life, and he held you close to his heart.
A celebration of Melvin’s life will be held at the Wildlife Ramp in Waterlily on Saturday, October 5th at 2pm. Family will receive guests after at the home of Heidi Lewis 145 Scaffs Lane Aydlett NC.
The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to Amber Wessel, whose extraordinary care, kindness, and unwavering support meant the world to Melvin and his loved ones. Her compassion during his final days will never be forgotten.
Melvin’s warmth, kindness, and love for life will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be remembered not just for the way he lived, but for the way he made others feel—valued, loved, and never alone. His legacy lives on through the beautiful memories he leaves behind.
