Robert Earl Lanier

Robert Earl Lanier, 70, of Powells Point, NC passed suddenly on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

Bobby or Bob, depending on who you were, didn’t know a stranger. He moved his family, wife Margie, and children Kim Wentz (Charles), Chad Tomlin (Sabrina), and Larry Tomlin (Amber) down to the Outer Banks in 1980. From there he went on to build many of the homes on the OBX as a Master Carpenter. He served his community by working with Dare County EMS and as a Volunteer Firefighter in Kill Devil Hills and Manns Harbor.

Bobby was a native of Richmond, VA, but called the Outer Banks his home. He loved his family, always had a joke, enjoyed food and local restaurants, playing with his dog, and watching any sports his grandchildren and great-grandchildren played, never missing a game. He was a loyal friend and would help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren; Zach, Jamie, Sean, Kay-lee, Sara, Cole, Gage, Zane, Zoe, Brooke, Zander, and Zalen; and his great-grandchildren; Jaxson, Bently, Nash, Jameson, Lawson, and Evelyn.

He was preceded in passing by his sister, Shelby Spain, and brother, Gary Lanier. He will be remembered by his sisters, Betty Harold (David), Judy Barbarian, Vicky Lanier, Carolyn Clowes (Waynes), and Ellen Poe; and many friends and extended family.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Twiford Colony Chapel. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service.
