Three people were hospitalized, including a resident of a home destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon in Kitty Hawk.
Members of the Kitty Hawk, Southern Shores Volunteer and Kill Devil Hills fire departments, Dare County EMS and Kitty Hawk Police Department were called to the 3900 block of Parker Street at 2:48 p.m., according to a news release.
Upon arrival of Kitty Hawk fire units, heavy smoke and flames was showing from the front of the home. All occupants were reported out of the structure.
Video from reader Amie Mayer Sabatini showed firefighters attacking the blaze in intense midday heat.
A defensive fire attack was conducted utilizing multiple hose lines bringing the fire under control at approximately 3:50 p.m.

One occupant was treated at the scene, and then transported to The Outer Banks Hospital with unspecified injuries.
Two Kitty Hawk firefighters were also treated transported to the hospital for heat exhaustion and were later released.
Along with the home, two vehicles were deemed a complete loss. Three adjacent homes sustained minor-to-moderate damage from the heat. The fire’s origin and cause remain under investigation.
“This fire event proved extremely challenging given the weather conditions that personnel had to endure,” said Kitty Hawk Fire Chief Mike Talley.
“It was only through the efforts of the personnel that responded that no one was severely injured, and more property was not lost,” Talley said.
“Special thanks to Southern Shores Fire Department Rehab Unit and Dare County EMS for providing much needed assistance for all our firefighters,” Talley added.
