The Outer Banks has always been famous for its fishing. And when fall rolls around, it’s tournament time! This year, the Kitty Hawk Surf Company Kayak Fishing Tournament gives kayak fishermen the chance to show off their skills over 7 days.
It seems as though fishing from a kayak keeps getting more popular all the time. Which makes a lot of sense because it is a wonderful way to experience the beauty of the Outer Banks and have some fun at the same time.
This year, Kitty Hawk Surf Co. is opening up the tournament to all North Carolina coastal waters. Anyone with a North Carolina saltwater fishing license is eligible to participate.
This is a SLAM tournament with the following species: Red Drum, Flounder, and Speckled Trout. This is also a photo catch and release style tournament. Bring your camera and snap your catches to submit them in the tournament. The total length of your top three fish (one from each species) will go towards the SLAM leader-board.
Competitors are permitted to launch starting at 6:00 AM each morning from September 14 through September 20. Submissions will end at 8:00 PM each night and all tournament submissions will close at 4:00 PM on the 20th.
All fish must be caught from your watercraft. Wading is not permitted. A PFD must be worn while competing in this event.
There is a $50 entry fee. Competitors must pick up their badge and official measuring device at Kitty Hawk Surf Company in Nags Head, NC or in Beaufort, NC. Proceeds will benefit the North Carolina Coastal Federation.
