The Outer Banks and northeastern North Carolina are under a red flag warning until 8 p.m. today due to high fire danger.

Northwest winds with gusts up to 35 mph, along with relative humidity as low as 20 percent, combine to create critical fire weather conditions.

Outdoor fires may easily grow out of control in these conditions and all outdoor burning is discouraged, the National Weather Service said.
