Jockey’s Ridge State Park will be conducting a prescribed burn today of approximately five acres to open up the understory of the forested area along Carolista Drive in Nags Head.

Warning signs have been placed along the side of the road in the vicinity of the prescribed burn area.

Drifting smoke is possible, so use caution when entering and exiting the park at the main entrance. Motorists are advised to use headlights and proceed with caution when driving through drifting smoke.

Nags Head fire and police departments and Dare County Emergency Management are aware of today’s prescribed burn.

Prescribed burns are taking place all along the Outer Banks and mainland locations this time of year to help limit the potential for wildfires and promote healthy growth of marsh, open terrain and woodlands.
