UPDATED: Snake caused morning power outage in Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head

Dominion Energy says a snake slithered into an insulator, causing a Monday morning power outage that impacted 9,280 customers in Kill Devil Hills, Colington and Nags Head.

The outage occurred about 7:30 a.m. and all customers were restored within an hour.

Dominion spokeswoman Samantha Q. Moore said a snake got into an insulator, which caused a transmission line outage.

The outage caused problems with the Town of Kill Devil Hills computer, telephone systems and email, though 911 was still operational.
