Portia W. Elliott

Portia Waller Elliott, MawMaw to her family, was born on August 20, 1951 and unexpectedly passed too soon on April 26, 2022.

Raised on a farm in Weeksville, NC with her mother and father, Allie and Sidney Waller, she rode tractors with her daddy. As a young lady working her first job at S&R Grocery as a cashier, she checked out her soon to be husband, Bobby Elliott. They would have been married 51 years on April 30. They made a life for themselves in Elizabeth City. Their home was never without laughter.

She graduated from COA with an associates degree in business. She had one daughter, Sheila Elliott English. Sheila says, “…she’s my best friend.” When her three grandchildren, Tyler, Jaelyn, and Dylan English, walked in the room, you could see her eyes light up. Mrs. Elliott was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. She oftentimes had a rescue dog on her lap when making phone calls. Well known and more than loved, she couldn’t walk in a store without someone noticing her with a smile.

Always kind, always a joy to be around, and forever a  gentle soul, she lived a life of 70 years. She enjoyed local produce stands, shopping,  traveling, and eating out with her family. She made sure they always had enough to eat. MawMaw loved and cared deeply for her family (and dogs).
