Authorities say a large first responder presence Wednesday morning outside an oceanfront motel in Kill Devil Hills was the result of an apparent suicide.
Kill Devil Hills Police Department Capt. J.C. Towler said they responded to a report of an unresponsive male in the parking lot with a firearm around 9 a.m. at the Best Western Ocean Reef in the 100 block of South Virginia Dare Trail.
Towler said investigators determined the subject had taken their own life sometime earlier in the morning.
