Police arrest suspect wanted in connection with Southern Shores overdose death

Southern Shores police have arrested an Elizabeth City woman wanted in connection with a 2020 overdose death, along with two men on unrelated charges including carrying a gun illegally and allegedly stealing power tools from a store.

A warrant was issued in November for the arrest of Tahnee Raquel Musick, 32, on a charge of conspiracy to sell/deliver heroin, while Christopher Robert Evans, 49, was taken into custody on a charge of felony death by distribution and sell/deliver heroin.

The charges stemmed from the December 2020 death of Jessica Leigh Musick, 33, at a home on Ocean Boulevard.

According to a press release, officers received several calls that Tahnee Musick had been spotted in Southern Shores on Sunday. Officers saw Musick get in the rear of a vehicle that began traveling on South Dogwood Trail and stopped the car at Pintail Drive around 4:40 p.m.

Police said Musick allegedly gave officers a fictitious name and was then taken into custody.

The driver of the vehicle, Steven Bass, 31, of Hertford, had a revoked license and the front seat passenger, Aaron Harvell, 51, of Shawboro, was spotted with an open beer can at his feet.

After a Nags Head Police Department K9 alerted to the possibility of narcotics in the vehicle, a search was conducted that turned up syringes and a digital scale under the front seat.

Musick allegedly had several syringes, a metal spoon and a plastic bag with powder residue in her purse.

A backpack was found in the vehicle containing several power tools that were later discovered to have been stolen from Home Depot in Kitty Hawk, and a handgun was found which Harvell allegedly tried to hide inside a tool box.

Along with the outstanding warrant, Musick also had a probation violation in Pasquotank County, and was charged with misdemeanor resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bass was charged with driving while license revoked and possession of paraphernalia, and charges for the stolen power tools are pending.

Harvell was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
