Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge issues Hurricane Preparedness Notice for upcoming season

Before you visit Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge (PLNWR), please check the weather and plan accordingly. The 2022 Hurricane Season will soon be upon us (June 1 – November 30) and PLNWR’s want everyone to be weather-aware and safely enjoy the refuge. During or after a storm just reaching the refuge can be hazardous. Their message to you is check ahead.
Severe weather can bring potential hazards reaching the refuge as well as on the refuge — downed trees, muddy, rutted and impassable roads and flooding are some of the potential dangers.
The refuge staff closely monitors NOAA and local weather forecasts. PLNWR will continue to proactively communicate with adjacent landowners and the public regarding hurricane forecasts and safety concerns on the refuge.
