The N.C. Department of Transportation will close a section of N.C. 12 in Frisco for 12 hours next weekend to replace two cross pipes under the road, and only four-wheel drive vehicles will be able to use the detour.
The work will take place between Delmer Willis Road and Sunset Strip in Frisco from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 24.
A marked detour route through Cape Hatteras National Seashore will be available for four-wheel drive traffic only between Cape Point Campground and ramp 49. Travelers will be able to drive on South Beach or use the Inside Road.
The north end of the detour starts at Lighthouse Road in Buxton. The southern end is at Park Road in Frisco.
There will be no detour route available for vehicles without four-wheel drive, and the work will be performed as scheduled unless a major weather event occurs.
