Perquimans County High School, in conjunction with Perquimans County First Responders and Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance, will stage a Mock Car Crash on April 26, 2022.

The goal of the exercise is to demonstrate and reinforce to students the dangers of drinking and driving, especially as we approach Prom Season. The crash site will be in the parking lot behind the high school gymnasium off Jimmy Hunter Drive.

Four students will take the parts of driver and passengers involved in a single vehicle crash. There will be one “fatality” with two passengers seriously injured. The driver, after failing field sobriety tests, will be arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and taken to the Magistrate’s Office.

First Responders will include the Hertford Fire Department, Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office, and Perquimans County Emergency Services. The High School fire engine and student crew will provide Landing Zone Control for Nightingale. We would also like to thank Miller and Van Essendelft Funeral Home for their willingness to participate in this drill.

The formal portion of the presentation will begin at 9:00 am with an assembly of Juniors and Seniors. They will be addressed by a representative of the District Attorney’s Office and a Victim Impact Statement will be made. The crash will be initiated by a pre-recorded 911 call by one of the students.

School counseling staff will be available, should they be needed.
