Peggy Parker Newbern, also known as “Peggy Sure”, age 88, of Powells Point, NC, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital. Born in Currituck County on July 7, 1934, to the late John Benjamin Parker and Nancy Virginia Voliva Parker, she was the widow of Kenneth Raynor Newbern. Peggy enjoyed gardening, working crossword puzzles, getting dressed up to go dancing on Saturday nights, and keeping up with the events of the neighborhood. She also enjoyed working with the public in many different jobs, never met a stranger, and was always the life of the party.
She is survived by two sisters; Betty Lewis and Sandra Parker, both of Point Harbor, NC; special nieces and nephews, Darlene, Ginger (Josh), Teresa (Mike), and John; special great-nieces, Celeste and McKenzie; and a host of other nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Peggy’s name to Powells Point Christian Church Cemetery Fund, 197 Church Road, Harbinger, NC 27941.
